Aki is a product guy turned into the venture capitalist. He is also passionate about building the new business, fostering the entrepreneurs and facilitating the design thinking workshop. At WiL, Aki’s particular interest is in Digital Media, Marketplace, VR/AR, IoT, Bitcoin, Connected Car. His investment includes Nuzzel, Survios and Reload Studios that he serves on the board of directors.
Aki’s experience includes fields as diverse as construction, software engineering, product development and venture capital. Before WiL, he headed up Digital Garage’s investment arm, resulting in 30+ venture rounds that included Kiip, Udemy, Intercom, Kamcord, AdStage, FundersClub and Glide.
During his tenure at Digital Garage, where he’d started as a web producer, Aki moved to San Francisco to launch the company’s U.S. office.
Then, while in residence at Twitter, he was instrumental in the company’s expansion to Japan. At the same time, he drove the Japanese rollouts of top services including Path and LinkedIn.
Aki graduated from the Department of Architecture at Kansai University’s Faculty of Engineering. Before teaching himself computer programming and starting his tech career, he worked at the construction firm Kumagaigumi as a site foreman.
During his free time, Aki enjoys playing guitar and singing songs.
